Under: Flemings Steakhouse
This year is the year to remember. The Feast of Men evaluated Chef Richard Cobbs and Fleming's Steakhouse on February 20th. This was the biggest we every went with 80oz's of prime rib steak per person, equivalent to 5lbs of meat per person! I'm telling you right now it was the best Feast of Men to date.First off I spoke to Chef Cobbs before hand and he was very reassuring that this would be a great event. I met with him and he allowed me to pick where we would sit and gave us captains chairs so we could eat like kings. He also introduced me to the private event director and she gave us these great personalized menus with each participants name on it along with our logo. I must say that probably was what set the night ablaze when the members seen those.
SERVICE
When we first arrived all the staff from the hostess to the waitress and waiter were very warm and helpful. They assisted us with taking pictures and helped us out in every way possible. We had no issues with service, they were prompt and pleasant the entire night. Our waitress even went in the back and took some pictures for us of all the steaks lined up.
ATMOSPHERE
The atmosphere was lo key, dim lights, if you have ever been to Fleming's it's a nice upscale restaurant, good for a romantic dinner or a nice formal group outing. Not to say that you have to wear a suit and tie but it's that type of place where you want to look nice when you go. But with their welcoming staff, they made us feel comfortable laughing right along with us.
MENU
On the menu was our choice of a wedge salad, classic caesar or the Fleming's salad. I got the caesar myself. We had our choice of a variety of family style sides I chose the cheesy potatoes that were great. No dinner is complete without dessert which I opted to get the turtle pie. Please don't think I left out the main course, that needs a whole paragraph by itself!
STEAK
Well well well, the steak! I have had their prime rib before and I was not impressed. Speaking with Chef Cobbs on the phone prior to the event, he told me that they prepare their prime rib differently now and it was ten times better. Okay well lets see!
Before the steaks came out, Chef Cobbs told us that he started cooking them the night before and that they use a nice dry rub on them. He made them sound very good but tasting is believing. When they came out they looked great. Very nice presentation, they came out with three different sauces, creamy horseradish, au jus, and horseradish mustard. Also Fleming's has their own steak sauce they make that has a wine flavor to it, it was very good, make sure to ask for some of that, the next time you go. The rub looked great, nice and crisp on the outside and chef Cobbs did what a lot chefs in the past were not able to do and that was to get everyone's order correct, the way they wanted it done, which was major. You always lose points when your steak doesn't come out the way you order it. Chef Cobbs fantastically nailed eight of them. I ordered mine medium plus but we had a range from medium to medium well and he did a great job on all of them no complaints from anyone in the group.
Digging into the steak was where the party really started in my mouth. I couldn't believe it was as good as it was. The rub was phenomenal, drizzled with the tasty au jus sauce made that steak great! Nice and juicy all throughout, no problems cutting into it, not tough at all. A pleasant surprise from the first time I had their prime rib and everybody else agreed that it was an awesome steak.
PRICE
Now the price was a good for the meal that we got and the size steak we received. It was 95 dollars for the meal not including tax and gratuity. Remember we got 80oz's of steak per person, you know 5lbs. But for you normal eaters you can have all of that but with just a smaller portion of prime rib for 39.95. So yes, I say, GO GET IT!
RECOMMENDATION
Fleming's is the place to beat for a superb steak whether ribeye or prime rib. If you haven't read my review on their ribeye just search for it in the older posts section of the blog.
Shula's Steakhouse has been the Feast of Men champion since 2007 for the best prime rib that we have ever had but they have been dethroned and Fleming's Steakhouse in Uptown Charlotte North Carolina now has the top notch. Earning Chef Richard Cobbs a spotlight page on our site that will be up soon. Next year we will be back in New York State somewhere. God bless you and come back soon I will be blogging about different places in Charlotte throughout the year.
