Holiday Inn/Oneonta

March 19, 2010

Well this years FEAST OF MEN was held at the Holiday Inn, in Oneonta New York by one of our own members Paul Lawrence. He is the General Manager at this particular hotel. Why did he want to risk complete humiliation and ridicule I will never know, but we had fun.
To add to the excitement and fun we added three new members, Muga Katoke a friend of Paul’s and now a friend of ours. Also sixteen year old Javaughn “The Giant” Johnson and fifteen year old Taharen “Terrible” Williams, my two nephews. Both of them did very well and I’m proud of them.
Arriving at 3p.m. on Valentines Day we were greeted by our waiter Mike. He set out a nice display of chips and spicy cheese dip prepared special for this F.O.M feast. Along with that we had a cheese, meat and bread appetizer. When everyone was accounted for we sat and gave thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for blessing us to meet again one more year.
Again the main course was a 75oz cut and along with that we had a salad, baked potato and asparagus spears which were the best I’ve ever had. But you know how we do it at the F.O.M meetings, it’s all about the beef! No one had a potato at the meal except one person. Check out the Video and see who complains that they got full off of it! You’ll see there’s a lot of excuses going around.
The service was good and the private session was a joy to be in because it was just us, so who would complain about the noise J ? The meat was good, after seeing the video I would have gotten it cooked a little more, it was prepared medium plus, but it didn’t take away from any thing. Also can’t comment on the rub because I didn’t have much on mine because I had a center cut.
For Dessert we had one of my personal favorites, a brownie sunday, nice presentation I might add, I ordered two! check it out on the slide show on the Home page.
Let’s talk dollars! For two appetizers, salad, two sides, dessert and a main course of 75oz’s Prime Rib Steak per person, $96 dollars isn’t bad. That includes the type.
Be on the lookout Charlotte because the FEAST OF MEN is coming in 2011! God bless.

The Palm/Charlotte

January 8, 2010

I revisited a second restaurant I've been to recently because I got some coupons in the mail.  The Palm has a 837 club membership and I'm a member of it.  I got my memebership free but it costs $25 to join the club and earn points everytime you eat there.  If you keep, I believe, 500 points on your card you get a free lobster tail for your birthday.  If it were steak we would be in business.
I told you before that I got the Prime Rib and it wasn't to good.  This time I got the 24oz Ribey...

LongHorn Steakhouse/Gastonia

January 8, 2010
I've been away for awhile sorry, but I went back to LorngHorn Steakhouse.  I haven't been back in over a year. But this time I went I got some Prime Rib.  They didn't have it on the menu before when I went.  I was with the who family this time usually when I write and give you a price it's for two people.  There were five of us this time, all three kids came. My wife got the Ribeye and I was tempted to do the same but since I haven't had their Prime Rib yet I got that instead.
It was good not ...

Old Stone SteakHouse/Belmont

October 15, 2009

I recently went to Old Stone SteakHouse in Belmont.  The best part of my meal was the appetizer and that was just some boneless wings.  The steak I ordered was a 14oz ribeye with it's so called "signature" butter on top was at best less than average.  Not to mention this was the smallest 14oz steak I have ever had.  I had a 10oz ribeye at the Hard Rock Cafe that was bigger than this.  No flavor except for the butter on top, it would have been very bland without it.  I didn't have time to ask ...

Capital Grille/Charlotte

October 5, 2009

My lastest place of critique was the Capital Grille in Charlotte.  Let me suggest you bring a sweater because it was cold.  But when you go it may be alright since they will probably be warming it up inside since it's cooling down outside.
Anyway on to the meat.  I ordered the ribeye called the Delmonico Steak a bone in ribeye cut.
They use a sweet vinigerette on the steak and seal the flavor in with a type of crushed, almost to a powder, mushrooms and sear the outside of it which locks in ...

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse/Charlotte, Baltimore MD

September 17, 2009
I've been to Ruth's Chris Steak House in Baltimore MD and here in Charlotte and they've got their act together.
Both places I ordered the Ribeye, and again everything was a la carte and can get pricey but the Ribeye was worth every penny.  They don't mind giving you a man size portion even if your a little guy.  I appreciate the swollen stomach when I go.  Just like Flemings Restaurant I have nothing bad to say about their Ribeye.  You can't go wrong with it, tender, juicy and hefty when i...

Flemings Restaurant/Charlotte

September 17, 2009
Flemings Restaurant in Charlotte had to be one of the best and average experiences I've ever had.
I went to Flemings twice because they only serve Prime Rib on Sunday so I had to go back and try it.  But the first time I went I got the Ribeye and this time I got the blue cheese crest topping on it.  That was the first time I ever got that.  This Ribeye was so tender and delicious I had to sit back and take it all in for a moment.  I mean I literally put my fork down and sat back in my se...

LongHorn Steakhouse/Gastonia

September 17, 2009
Ladies and Gentlemen, our first "GO GET IT," goes to LongHorn Steakhouse in Gastonia.  Most places I go to the best steak is at the smaller less expensive places.  I got the Ribeye there and it was great!  I didn't think it was going to be as good as it was because most of the big chains don't have good chefs it seems.  But my first bite was fantastic, no need for sauce although they gave me some and was able to finish without it and was glad to do it.  Longhorn is easy on the pocket and load...
